p0740.transmission slips at medium throttle between 1/2 gear ans 2/3 gear. Shop says there is a bulliten out on the code that says to flush the trans. fluid 4 times and see if that clears the code. Shop says that due the the additional problem of slipping this would not likely solve the problem. appreciate any assistance. they quoted 1800-2500 to rebuild

Not knowing what model accord or what engine the car has this is a diagnosis. Honda knows they have a problem with this trans. Unfortunately you miss the mark buy two years.

    Vehicle Application: 1996 Accord 2.2 1997 Accord 2.2

Customer Concern: Check engine light is on with a code P0740 for a lockup converter circuit problem.
Tests/Procedures: 1. Look TSB #98-040 for the P0740 code. Perform the freeze frame data test. If the vehicle shows at 52 to 57 MPH, flush the transmission fluid 4 times. Test drive the car, and if the codes come back, replace the transmission.
Tech Tips: This vehicle has a 14 year/150,000 mile emission warranty from Honda for any problem that illuminates the check engine light.

Being that the car is 16 years old replacing the trans would be the logical move. Contact me at jmgrhm30@gmail.com for a less expensive alternate fix.
