Dealer says CEL is due to hoses from charcoal canister and canister itself leaking fumes. Is 836.00 reasonable?

The canister is easy to replace and is a common problem. Call the dealership parts department and see how much the part cost. Disconnecting the battery will erase the code after you have replaced the part.
