Question: How high should the RPM's be at 70mph?

I bought this car last year and it runs over 3000 RPM's at 70mph. That seems high to me. Is it and if so what should I do?

    Is your Jetta an automatic or manual transmission? If it is manual transmission there is nothing you can do - the gearing is fixed. If your 2001 Volkswagon Jetta is an automatic then the could be something wrong with the transmission. If the torque converter clutch does not lock-up engine RPM's will be higher than normal.

    I have a 2001 vw jetta vr6 4 speed auto and at 70 mph the rpm's are at 3000 and i think that's to high I have had the car 3 weeks

    I have a 2003 golf and runs at 3200 at 70mph but I think it's a bit high too. I do feel a little better seeing your post though.

    I have a 1999 Jetta and it runs 3000 rpm at 70 mph. I thought that was a little high but from what I've been reading on the internet that's pretty normal.
