how hard is it to replace the A. C. core ? on 2006 BMW 325i

The A. C. has quit working and I can smell the refrigerant inside the car.

The entire dash has to be removed, to replace the Evaporator Core. For a repair shop to replace it, the estimator shows 14 hours to replace. For a DIYer, figure a long weekend or more! Also when done, the a/c system needs to be evacuated and recharged.
