I can switch on the hazard lights with my fingertip, but can only switch it off with the help of a pliers.. difficult to say the least.
Do I need to take off the steering wheel? how dio I remove th steering column trim cover? Is the hazard light switch one unit with the turn signal switch?
How much is the part?

The hazard switch is part of the turn signal switch on your 1999 Cadillac DeVille. The red button is held on by a small screw. I don't think you can purchase the button, spring, and screw separately from the turn signal switch. The airbag, steering wheel, and lock plate must be removed to replace the turn signal switch, special tools are required.

thank you, that was very helpful. Do you think it would be possible to take the spring, the screw, and the button from the new turn signal switch and use it to complete my old hazard light switch without removing the steering wheel or the column trim cover ?

If you can find the parts, and the threaded hole in your current turn signal switch is not damaged, then yes you can replace just the missing parts.
