Is it true that bulbs (i.e. taillights bulbs, turn signal bulbs) should only be handled with gloves and not bare hands?

Yes, it is true some of the new light bulbs should not be toughed. The oils on your skin will leave a residue on the bulb which will shorten it's life. Halogen bulbs are the most common bulbs affected by this issue but a good rule would be not to touch any bulb if you are not sure. Gloves are not necessary - holding a towel or rag in your hand is ok, just don't touch the bulb directly with your fingers. Check with your local parts store or VW dealer for specific bulb information.
