Question: how do I replace the rear cover on the right side mirror assembly

there is a plastic cover that should just snap on to the rear of the mirror assembly

    the plastic cover is suppose to snap on but the plastic "tinnecles" do not align to the holes properly. thanks for your thoughts; the cap should snap on.
