In order to replace the ignition switch in your 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier you must first remove the upper and lower steering column trim plates. In order to remove the lower trim cover the tilt lever must be removed if equipped. A small vice grip pliers works well for loosening the tilt lever. With the lever off there are three screws which hold the bottom cover in place. remove the screws and unsnap the top from the bottom. The ignition switch is on the left side and is held in place by two small inverted torx fasteners.
