2005 Toyota 4Runner Question: how did the vsc track light cause my gear shift to be stuck in park?

 Rookie

pulled into dirt road driveway with a few tree roots, usually apply brakes going over to avoid bumping. noticed vsc trac and abs lights came on. put in park and turned off. later went to drive, lights still on and can't take out of park!

    Check fuses. Look to see if brake lights work. When someone pushes brake pedal.
    If not,replace open fuse. While you are at it, check all fuses. See owners man.

    You may need a new brake switch located under the pedal, but check fuses first. As a temporary fix, there is a shift lock override button hidden near the shift lever under a small pry off door. On mine it was just to the left of the shift console near the top. Pry off the cover, press the button as you shift and it'll unlock the lever so you can get it in gear.
