How can i determine fault btwn trans or TC before committing time and $ to repla on 1990 Toyota 4Runner

How can i determine fault btwn trans or TC before committing time and $ to replacement of trans in my 1990 four runner? When i bought the truck it idled very high and would slam into gear from park to drive. Considering it still a great deal at the price i bought it. Three weeks later i spent a full night driving on the freeway. I noticed it was not readily shifting into OD. I reached my destination, parked and stayed abt 6 hrs. OD issue aside, the truck seemed fine the whole way, even to the moment i turned off the motor. Then it was time to leave so i started her up and put it in gear. I made it about 200 feet before losing all tranny function. Just like that, truck would not move in any gear/transfr case position. Fluid fine. No apparent disconnects re electrical/vacuum. I am perplexed and in dire need of experienced advise.

Idle not from trans but sounds like it's now driven its last mile. Get a used unit with a warranty. GL
