Resources for the Repair and Maintenance of your Honda Insight
Honda Insight Models:
Honda Insight Problems
Intergrated Motor Assist Battery Failure
Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) battery failures are not uncommon. The IMA battery will require replacement when it fails.
Shudder From CVT Transmission
The automatic transmission (CVT) can have a "shudder" due to a worn start clutch. Replacing the start clutch should correct this type of shudder condition.
Software update for IMA computer
IMA computer software failures. Depending upon the computer it will have to be replaced or updated with a software update from Honda.
EVAP soleniod failure due to road salt
The Check Engine Light may illuminate due to an evaporative emission control solenoid failure. This is more common in areas of the country where salt is used on the roads during the winter.
Check engine light due to binding gas cap
A binding gas cap can cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate. Replacing the filler neck is needed for this repair.

RepairPal Expert Overview:
Honda recalled certain 2000-2002 Civic and Insight vehicles due to a low beam headlight issue. On affected models, the low beam terminal on the headlight switch wiring harness could overheat, causing the loss of low beam headlight function. Low beam head lamps that fail to operate can lead to a higher risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the headlight switch and wiring connector for signs of heat damage. If damage is present, the dealer will replace the switch and wiring connector. If no damage is present, the dealer will replace the headlight switch and one of the terminal pins in the wiring connector.

Honda Insight Stories
My car runs great after it warms up. It's a little jerky before that. I am getting 50 mpg on average. On certain trips I get over 60 mpg. What a savings. I have driven 25,000 miles the first year.
City mileage is consistently in the high 40s... same with highway. If driven carefully low 50s are possible. The transition from regenerative braking to friction braking at low speeds is not as smooth as the Prius system which is seamless. First year of operation has been flawless. Moderate road noise, as with most Hondas.
My 2002 Insight is awesome but my mileage NOW is only 44/m/p/g-and it used to be like 53-It had 2 transmissions replaced and is currently experiencing the bucking/deceleration-main.light on-then oil light comes on but there's oil in the car.Why did the mileage drop? Does it need an altitude adjustment since I bought it in a sealevel state? I love my little rocket-ship and it's only got 103,000 miles-were you all out of it in 2002?
This Honda Insight has been great. Of course it needs oil changed every 5, 000 miles and new tires on the front end before winter. Averaged 52 miles to the gallon for 249,000 miles. Did not give any problem.
