Honda Maintenance Procedures - Common Additional Services
The air filter accumulates dust and debris and should be replaced to protect the engine and maximize fuel economy. For optimal engine performance and longevity, replace every 1 year or 15,000 miles.
Brake fluid accumulates moisture and contamination from component wear over time and unless replaced every 30,000 miles or 2 years, can cause brake system damage.
Engine coolant breaks down, gets rusty and becomes contaminated with debris from component wear over time and can cause engine or cooling system damage if not replaced every 2 years or 30,0000 miles.
Differential fluid breaks down and becomes contaminated with moisture over time and can lead to differential damage from a lack of proper lubrication. It should be replaced every 2 years or 30,000 miles.
Drive belts crack and become glazed over time and can squeak or even break. They should be replaced every 45,000 miles.
The Fuel Filter becomes restricted as it accumulates debris from filtering the fuel which, can lead to performance problems and early fuel pump failure. It should be replaced at the mileage interval recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
The Manual Transmission fluid breaks down and becomes contaminated with moisture over time and can lead to transmission damage from a lack of proper lubrication. It should be replaced every 2 years or 30,000 miles.
Inspection of wheels and tires, rotate tires, check and adjust air pressures
Replacement of the Engine Air Filter and the Cabin Air Filter (where applicable) is performed, along with an inspection of the drive belt and drive belt tensioner.
Replacement of the Automatic or Manual Transmission Fluid is performed.
Adjustment of the valves should be performed whether they are noisy or not. The Valve Cover gaskets will be replaces as part of this job.
Spark Plug terminals wear down over time and can lead to engine misfires and increased exhaust emissions. Replace according to the vehicle manufacturers recommended replacement interval.
Replacement of the timing belt may also include the waterpump, drivebelt(s), belt tensioner and engine seals, all of which are not part of this estimate. Failure to replace the timing belt may cause engine damage if it were to break, so don't pass this up!
On engines with adjustable valves, the valve train clearances can become improper which can lead to engine damage. The valve clearance should be checked and adjusted every 30,000 miles.

I am just curious...Why am I being quoted prices from shops that are easily 100.00 more than these costs shown for my search, just for a regular maintenance schedule? It's not as if there is some weird unknown factor affecting the estimate? Thanks... |

New car - I want to change my own oil. I assume the engine maintenance light comes on when the oil life indicator get to 90 or 100%.

I'm at 27k miles. I don't know what is the best maintenance schedule to follow. The Honda dealership ripped me off quite badly. I don't rightly know what to believe. I know oil needs done. But, what about the timing belt, spark plugs, and valve adjustments? I was told it would need done at 30k miles. I'm not car genius but I know that's a bunch of hog wash. Any advice as to the right scheduling, let me know. I will use a service station listed on your site th... |
