This is my 4th Taurus/Sable. Bought when it was a year old, and has 52k miles now. Have a couple of issues #1. During cold starts, engine idles high (~2000 rpm) for about a minute. No check engine light. #2. Starter makes a loud grinding noise from time to time (~once a month) without warning. Can't ever replicate for mechanic. The car is still under warranty until 60K miles. Thanks.

Replace the starter, before it ruins your flywheel, this is very important. As for the idle, there should be some codes in the memory of the computer that will help determine the cause, it is most likely a fault in the Electronic Throttle Module System, which is a more high tech version of an idle air control system.
