Good trucks, i just dont like a diesel engine, any Diesel eng. but in a 350 i dont see many other choices for a work truck. Nothing wrong with them but messsy to service, they smell, noisey, hell aint even got spark plugs! Tough though!

I HAVE SEVERAL ACCT'S WITH THE 6.0L DIESELS AND I MAKE ALOT OF MONEY OFF THE NEEDED REPAIRS. WHEN THEY GET AROUND 80K MILES IS WHEN THEY START HAVING MAJOR ISSUES. MOST OF THE REPAIRS ARE IN THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. I JUST DID A MINOR REPAIR ON A POLICE OFFICERS TRK AND ITS WAS 1500.00 BUT IV DONE SEVERAL THAT WERE IN THE 4K DOLLAR RANGE AND ONE THAT WAS 13K. I WOULD ADV TO KEEP LOOKING AND THE 6.4L ARE JUST AS BAD.HOPE THIS HELPS.

Greg, how about the chevy. DuraMax, i think that is what it is called, any better? I don't work on that many Diesels just the minor stuff. I mean if he has to have a Diesel and a 1 ton. What would you buy? Answer optional, but from a tech. that works on them which is more durable,Dodge Ford Chevy? Kinda curious myself.

WELL DODGE IS A GOOD MOTOR AND MY SON HAS A 07 CHEV DURAMAX. THEY ARE GREAT I HAVE BEEN TO SEVERAL CLASSES THRU DELCO ABOUT THAT ENG.THEY ARE WELL BUILT AND HAVE A GREAT TRANS BEHIND THEM,I WOULD REC EITHER TO ONE OF MY CUST.THE NEW DURAMAX ARE GOING TO HAVE APPROX 26000 PSI IN FUEL PRESSURE SO BE VERY CAREFUL OF FUEL LEAKS. THEY TELL US ITS LIKE A WATER JET CUTTING MACH AND ONE INSTRUCTOR ACTUALLY CUT HIS FINGER OFF RUNNING HIS HAND OVER A SMALL FUEL LEAK IN STEEL LINE.

Crap! thanks for the info. maybe i will work on even less now! But it's like anything else just have t know what to do. I think you just answered the original question as well. I do know that Chevy. is quiet for a diesel. Also we see few with any problems. All i have seen is (and this is darn few) is a glow plug.
