Question: Hesitation when accelerating

 Rookie

My Escape has developed a hesitation during acceleration between 35 to 50mph. We thought it might be the fuel filter but we replaced that and it didn't help. The needles for the tac and speedometer go all the way to the top for 2-3 seconds and then go back to normal. No change in the engine speed when this occurs.

    We own a 2002 Ford Escape XLT, 4WD, 3.0 V6. We experienced the exact same problem. The solution turned out to be one of the three catalytic converters. The second one was completely blocked and had to be replaced.

    Have your repair shop test all three catalytic converters, it is likely the problem.

    I had the same problem and it turned out to be a coil pack on the 3 cylinder. Had it replaced and no problems now.
