I assume the oil level is right. Did the Check Engine light ever come on with any misfire codes? Did the noise started suddenly without any warning?
Looks like the valve covers has to come off for a valve train inspection.
The 3.7 engine has valve train problems.

oil is kept right, and yes it did just kinda come outta nowhere. it was muffled some so we put lucas in it to clean it out and stuff and that made the ticking louder! just had it worked on, got new chains and lifter put in and the ticking still hasnt gone away the "jeep tech." says....so they are now sending it elsewhere for sum1 else to figure out what is wrong! thank you so much for ur time and any help would be wonderful!

OK, so the chains and the lifters where replaced.
There is a TSB about discard the old intake valve locks and use a new, revised parts.
Did the ticking started after the above job was done, or it was there before?
Anyway, when new lifters are installed it necessary to run the engine at idle and slightly raised RPM to bleed the lifters, sometimes it takes more than an hour. Lucas won't help, it makes it worst, since it is pretty thick and won't allow the correct amount of oil flow through.
The valve covers need to be removed and the valve train inspected.
Did you get all the hydraulic lifters replaced?

TSB? ... the ticking started a few months ago, and since its been wrkd on it has gotten quieter but still ticks! now they're saying i need to replace the left head and cam!!???! :( i wonder if they're just trying to make money off me?:( bc its a used vehicle and all, im sure theres wear and tear but geez.....surely i dnt need this much done to it? it seems to me as if theres some rub going on against the fan by radiator also:((
im in bad need of someone (mechanic) who knows what they're doing.....bc obviously the people wrkn on it have no clue and its costing wayyyyy too much.
ive also been told it cud be the exhaust...that was b4 this head/cam thing now.....its been to two different places now and still ticking
only one lifter, the rest were good! and last year, fyi, the jeep did get over heated once and had to go 15 more miles to make it home
