Question: Heater/AC Fan
Question
I have a 2001 Solara and the heater/AC fan ONLY runs with the fan speed switch in the HIGH position. I think there must be some series resistor elements in line with the fan motor to reduce the motor voltage for the slower speeds, but I can't find them. Where are they located, and how do I get at them? Any other suggestions as top how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

MasterYou are exactly right there is a resistor pack that supplies varying ground. Blower motor resistor pack is on the passenger side foot well area ,it is held in with two phillips screws, wires at the resistor pack are colored, black/white, blue/red, white/black, blue/orange.

Jeff1942, June 28, 2009, 14:44RookieThanks for the help. After working upside-down for almost an hour, I got the resistor cluster out. Checking with an ohmmeter, one section is open. I have some low value wire-wound resistors here and possible can repair it. Do you know what the approximate values of the 3 sections should be? I'd like to finish this today if possible. Or tomorrow, I may go to the Toyota dealer and see how much they want for the replacement.

patrick mannion, June 29, 2009, 21:27ReplyMasterI think by the time you solder in different resistance wires the time involved will be prolonged. I believe the resistor pack is about $50. I am not sure if Dorman or some other parts sources may have it. Try www.rockauto.com and www.partstrain.com
