Question: Heat blows luke warm

Question

Visitor, Saratoga Springs, NY, December 14, 2010, 11:56

The heat blows luke warm at idle and heats up as I drive or at high idle. Once you stop goes back to luke warm. I have replaced the thermostat and still no real heat. I dont know if I should flush the heater core or look at the blend door.

if it was the blend door, it would not warm up off idle.
flushing the heater core is a good start.
if you have a 3.0 overhead valve motr or vin code U the water pump is a common failure that the impeller rots out and has poor circulation in the system.

I changed the water pump and it worked that night, but when I woke up the next day it was back to the same thing. Low idle luke warm air, high idle warm air. The temp gauge reads just fine, I think I am going to try the cap on the coolant.
