Question: Having idling problems and now car is having problems starting what can it be?

I'll be going from zero to 40 mph and it sometimes gets stuck between 3-4 rpm and the only way to get it off it is to get off the gas completely and have the car slow down it does this quit often. The other day I tried starting it and it won't start. The check engine light has been on and its saying its the EGR valve but its saying from a 1997-2000 which my car is a 2002. My stepdad replaced the EGR Valve 6 months ago with a brand new one. Is it the EGR Valve or something else?

    SCAN CODES AND POST. IT COULD BE EGR VALVE OR PASSAGES UNDER IT. WHERE DID HE BUY THE VALVE?

    I think it was either auto zone or oreilly auto parts that he bought it. I went last week to see why my check engine light was on at oreilly and it came up with the egr valve. Before that my car was not really having much problems just some idling problems that didnt worry me to much then after the check engine light came on a couple days later it started getting worse and now its having problems starting. This car is always having problems just 8 months ago we replaced the transmission. My air conditioner stopped working can that make the car have problems at all?

    welcome to the world of saturn. the egr valve will cause car to run rough and stall. buy a better valve i know there more $ but well worth it to save time and labor
