Vehicle Application: 1999 Mercury Sable 3.0L, Vin S 2001 Ford Taurus 3.0L, GAS, Vin U
Customer Concern: The MIL is on setting trouble code P1151.
Tests/Procedures: 1. Check the output of both Oxygen (O2) sensors on the scan tool when forcing the engine rich with added fuel. Both O2 sensors should jump to a high rich reading of 0.95-1.0 volts.
2. If only the bank #1 sensor jumps to a high rich reading, disconnect the lead O2 sensor for the front head and check the output of the sensor with a Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM) connected to the Black (BK) wire of the sensor and ground when forcing the engine rich.
3. If the sensor reading is still not showing a rich value, replace the sensor. If the sensor then jumps to a high rich reading of 0.95-1.0 volt, check the Red/Light Green (RD/LG) wire between the sensor connection and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) pin 87 for an open or short to ground.
Potential Causes: Oxygen (O2) Sensor
Oxygen (O2) Sensor Wiring
Tech Tips: Bank 1 is the rear cylinder head on this engine. Bank 2 is the forward cylinder head on this engine.
