Question: hard time getting into reverse

Rookie

No indication when the car decides to not reverse, it just happens every so often. It is actually an 89, is this something common to this make and model? Thanks...

Assuming you have an automatic transmission, I think you are having transmission failure symptoms. I don't know if this is common to your model car but it's common for any 22 year old car to have transmission failure. Take the car to a transmission shop. Or find an Acura/Honda specialist.
If it's a manual transmission, it's possible it's a clutch problem or a transmission problem.
