GMC Sonoma Recall 00V055000

GM Recalls Certain Trucks Due to Antilock Brake System Pump Motor Issues

Brakes, March 27, 2000

RepairPal Expert Overview

Summary:

The Antilock brake system pump motor may have an insufficient spring clip installed, which may cause an internal bearing retention issue. This could affect pump motor operation, and may cause brake pressure differentiation issues between the front and rear brakes. Dealers will replace the brake pressure module valve assembly.

Original Recall from the NHTSA

Model Year(s): 2000

Manufacturer's Report Date: March 27, 2000

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 00V055000

NHTSA Action Number: N/A

Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK

Potential Number of Units Affected: 10,674

Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH 4-WHEEL DISC BRAKES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE AN ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MOTOR CONTAINING AN OUT-OF-SPECIFICATION SPRING CLIP. THIS CLIP COULD ALLOW THE MOTOR BEARING TO BECOME MISALIGNED. IF MISALIGNMENT OCCURS, EVENTUALLY THE ABS WOULD BE NON-FUNCTIONAL.

Consequence: THE BASE BRAKES WOULD REMAIN FULLY FUNCTIONAL, BUT THE DYNAMIC REAR PROPORTIONING (DRP) SYSTEM, WHICH OPTIMIZES FRONT TO REAR BRAKE BALANCE, WOULD BECOME INOPERATIVE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE PRESSURE MODULE VALVE ASSEMBLY.
