The Fuel Gauge Reading May Be Incorrect
On vehicles equipped with a 6.6L diesel engine, the engine could stall unexpectedly due to an incorrect fuel gauge reading.
As of this writing, General Motors has not yet released a notification schedule for this recall. If you don't receive notification in a timely manner and you feel you should, please contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The General Motors recall number is 13420.
Vehicles equipped with a 6.6L diesel engine and dual fuel tanks are being recalled because the transfer pump that moves fuel from the rear tank to the front tank could cause the fuel gauge in show the incorrect fuel level. The engine could stall unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the fuel transfer pump and replace it as necessary to correct this concern.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD vehicles, equipped with 6.6L diesel engines and dual fuel tanks. In the affected vehicles, the transfer pump which moves fuel from the rear tank to the front tank could malfunction and cause the fuel gauge to indicate an inaccurate reading.
If the fuel gauge indicates an inaccurate reading it may result in the vehicle unexpectedly stalling, increasing the risk of a crash.
General Motors will notify owners and dealers will inspect and replace the fuel transfer pump, as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 13420.
