Glow Plug Replacement

Glow plugs are part of a diesel engine starting system. They add intense heat to the combustion chamber to help start the engine when it is cold.

How to Replace a Glow Plug

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal
  2. Remove any parts of the induction system that may block access to the glow plug
  3. Disconnect the glow plug electrical connector
  4. Unscrew the glow plug from the cylinder head
  5. Install and properly torque the new glow plug
  6. Connect the glow plug connector and negative battery terminal
  7. Clear all codes and download any software updates and/or adaptions
  8. Start the engine several times to verify the repair
