Is there a $500 limit or a $1,000 limit on how much I have to spend on smog repairs or is there no maximum amount that I might be required to pay to get the car to pass the smog test. Its been a good car and has passed the last several years with no problems. This time the NO (PPM) numbers were too high. I dont trust the smog repair shops. Im afraid the shops will sell me more than what is needed.

Sorry but there is no minimum or maximum cost. First the car will need to be diagnosed which will cost money then they will tell you what needs to be done to fix the problem whitch will include the cost for parts and labor.
