The gear shift on y o4 Explorer is locked in Park and will not shift. I am parked forward (up) in my driveway which is on about a 30 degree incline. My brake lights seem to be working fine. What do I need to do or check to unlocked the gear shift?

Hey rhuff1, I'm having the same problem with my 04' explorer.. Under the steering column there is a little door you can slide open and insert a key or small screw drive and release the shift lever.. I'm looking into replacing the brake light switch on the pedal or the switch in the column.
second time. no brake lights, gear shift locked in park, could not be towed as wheels wont turn! HELP>
