This morning i went out and started up my car. I have a shift in the floor. it is automatic. It will not move out of park. another thing I noticed was the steering wheel was not locked in place like it ususally is. I cannot get it to move at all. Can you give me any ideas? yesterday it worked fine.

Problems with the automatic transmissions in Honda Accords of this vintage are pretty common. RepairPal has some info on it on their Honda Accord page: http://repairpal.com/honda-accord-1999/common_problems

Honda did work to address the problems with these transmissions, so you should start with a Honda dealership and see if they are willing to give you some help.

It was the break switch? on the floor pedal. All fixed now.

When you put the key in the ignition and get the dash warning lights to come on do you hear a clicking sound from the center console area each time you press on and off the brake pedal. If not check that your brake lights work. If not check for a blown fuse or bad brake light switch. The automatic transmission requires an input from the brake light switch to enable the car to be taken out of park. There is a control module and solenoid located near the shift lever as well that may be causing the problem as well. There is a slot next to the gear shift lever that if you insert a key or screw driver in the slot it allows you to pull the lever into neutral while you have the screw driver or key pushed down. I have a file and some pictures I shall send you these instructions off line to your e-mail.
