gear shift is locked in manual position on 2004 Infiniti G35

We have not had the car a week now, we bought it from an indivdual, I noticed a small block had been inserted to I guess to keep it from going into the manual position, where it is stuck now. Does anyone know how I can get it out of the manual position?

I had same problem for 2003 camry automatic. I DID FIX IT by removing very tiny cover by the stick shift and presses the knob inside that litle hole. And i was able to move the gear.

Seems strange that someone would "lock the transmission" this way. Autozone have some popular workshop manuals for free on line once you register (for free) on their website .There is a company that independent auto repair shops "buy" their information from that offer a very reasonable service to do it yourselvers. You get a one year subscription to year make and model specific repair procedures, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect.... great quality information same as the professionals have ,much better than generic workshop manuals from parts stores, much cheaper than the factory manual. or try and get an online repair manual subscription.
