1994 Mazda B4000 Question: Gear grinding noise?

 Rookie

I have a B4000 SE with 4 wheel drive. When I turn the wheel too the right I hear a "gear meshing" noise, as if the 4 wheel drive is trying to engage? If I engage the 4 wheel drive the noise stops? I've checked the wheel bearing, and found it to be "slightly" lose!

    Are you talking abut a noise from under the center of the car or it coming from one side or the other? Either way I'm suspecting a sticking 4WD hub in front wheel not not unlocking and causing problems. At 30,000 mile intervals you're supposed to service the front locking hubs and wheel bearings, FYI. More than that, I'd need more info or to see the vehicle..
