1993 Buick Roadmaster Question: gauges

my odometer, speedometer and voltage guage work on ocassion,and sometimes when i tap on them...mechanic said needs to be rebuilt ($800.00) open to suggestions -

sounds like you have a loose wire that is intermittently shorting out. it's the feed (hot) wire which supplies voltage to all three. It's probably behind tghe dash. you might be able to fix it from under the dash, but it'll take a while and will be very cramped. HTH -
