The gauge sensor in the tank may be defective, or the wiring to the gauge or the gauge itself may be bad. What I would do first is get a bottle of Chevron Techron Plus Use this according to the instructions and see if it helps. The fuel level sensors can become dirty and the Techron will clean the sensor, see the link for more info.
