my gas gauge doesn't work, how should i go about fixing, do i need to replace the entire fuel pump as someone suggested?

    The gauge sender unit, filter and pump assembly are all together in the tank but I think your Chevy dealer sells the sender unit separately or try www.rockauto.com

    before replacing the pump, have someone with a scan tool check the instrument cluster to make sure the dash unit is functioning correctly.

    They both are right. Chevy's are know for cluster problems. But sending units go bad all the time. I would have someone with a scan tool and know how take a look at it.
