where is the fuel sensor located on a 1997 ford explorer

Ford had a campaign to replace the fuel tank sender unit (I believe the campaign has expired) to replace inaccurate reading fuel gauges, gauges read fuel was in the tank even though the tank was empty.
The sender unit is in the fuel tank and takes about 1.8 hours to replace.
