how do you disconect the fuel pump from the bottom of the gas tank

  If it what i am thinking, the access point is in the trunk, the fuel pump and carrier is clipped into the tank.
  Depending how full the tank is, you can normally shine a torch inside, locate the tabs and remove the carrier. It is easier to dismantle the fuel pump from the carrier on the bench.

  push the two clips toward the inside as if you were closing them then pull the pump up.
