1998 GMC Jimmy Question: fuel gage

 Rookie

the fuel gage remains on empty. Enough fuel on it, the tank is ok.They told me problem is the electrical chip behind the cluster. Where i have to buy a new one, or find to replace it?What s the right name to this chip?

    Usually this is due to a bad Fuel Sending Level unit in the fuel tank. ( very common on GM )
    Best thing to do is have a scan done of the data stream from the sending unit. Most good independent shops can and will do this. Then you will know if the unit is bad. To replace it you must remove the fuel tank to gain access. Good Luck!
