1996 Dodge Caravan Q&A
1996 Dodge Caravan Question: fuel filter
i just purchased a 1996 dodge caravn 3.0 just to ride around in the winter. i change the oil, air filter and they said i didn't need a tune up which was good because there where neww spark plugs already. i am thinking about changing the fuel filter. could you tell me if i should. it has 158840 miles on it and the cost would be $127 is that too much to spend from pep boys.last week i added fuel inj cleaner gumont. thanks - dmo1111111
It is always a good idea to change your fuel filter, at least every 60k, so I would say that you are due. A dirty fuel filter puts a lot of strain on your fuel pump, and can cause it to fail prematurely. - dandd
You could get it cheaper at Autozone but changing it yourself is a challange. You will have to lower the gas tank to get at it. I used a motorcycle jack to lower the fuel tank just enough to get at the bracket bolt and fittings to the fuel pump. The filter comes with 3 plastic lines with fittings on the end, 2 go to the fuel pump and one to the line to the engine. Took me about 1 hr - my 96 has 215k miles - Visitor

Hear sound near rear of van. Shop opened gas door and it was louder. Replaced fuel pump. Now does it intermittenly. Could it be something else?
