where is the fuel filter located?

Depends. On a lot of newer vehicles the fuel filter is inside the gas tank itself and a pain to replace. Replacing them means dropping the tank. Otherwise it would be an inline filter between the tank and the engine. Check for a filter under the hood or near the tank. I would guess it's probably in your tank though.
