fuel pump or timing chain(belt) on 1997 Toyota 4Runner

My 4runner limited suddenly stopped starting. It will crank but acts as though it is not getting fuel. How do I check this as I am unemployed and have limited access to a mechanic? Is it more likely to be fuel pump related or timing chain(belt) and how can I tell? Thanks for help!!

best first response is to replace fuel filters... often feels like out of fuel... after that it's good to check that you're fuel pump is working. (remove fuel line and "start" position for the electrical fuel pumps. and this often happens when older vehicles run los on fuel, pulling all the years of crud into the fuel system.
