The time in the book per side is 1.6 to 1.8 hours for the u-joint located at the end of each axle plus $48 to $70 for each u-joint from napa, We have a dodge 2500 diesel with 232,000 miles and never had to change a u-joint, You must be in 4 wheel drive all the time to wear these out.

We have the same problem with the front u joints. We had them repaired by Dodge 2 years ago and the mechanic told us they would probably go out every 2 years and now they have again. These front u joints are definately a problem on 2005 Dodge Rams. We very seldom use the 4 wheel drive so it isn't that.
