Question: Front Pump Seal Leaking
Question
My girlfriend has a 1999 Ford Taurus that is leaking transmission fluid. She had someone take a look at it for her and was told her front pump seal needs to be replaced. Is there anything we can do to stp this leak short of putting it in the shop as she can't do it right now. Is there something that we might be able to add to her transmission fluid that could possibly seal it from the inside for a while until such time as she can put it in the shop to get it replaced? Any answers will be highly appreciated.

MasterI would suggest the leaking seal should be replaced on your 1999 Ford Taurus. Adding anything other than the recommended type of transmission is not a good idea. I know there are products out there that claim they can seal leaks but I would be wary of them. In the short term I would suggest keeping an eye on the fluid level and topping it off with the recommended type of fluid as necessary.

Rookielook under the car yourself to be sure its not coming out the axel seals or the fluid lines in front there. I agree with the last guy "stop leak" is ussually like trying to drink glue to stop diarria.
