there are 2 speed control knobs one for the front one for the rear. the rear seems to work just fine except blows less on one side than the other. the blower motor in the front only works when the knob is turned to high speed. not sure what to replace blower motor resistor or control switch.

I don't think your problem is with the blower motor, if it comes on at any of those speeds it is working. However you are on the right track with motor resistor or fan speed switch. The only way to be sure would be to test the switch to see if the contacts are working. If not replace the switch, if I were to guess I would replace the resistor, I had to replace more then a few in that model van.

I have had this Same issue and have replaced the resister and then it went out again after only about a month. Then about six months later my blower motor went out. Not sure if this was because I neglected to replace the blower resister again but I would definitely start there first its 2 bolts behind the glove box and the part is only about $20.00. Good luck
