This sounds like you have a bad CV Joint. Here is some info on the CV Joint : http://repairpal.com/cv-joint-replacement

How long can I drive the car with this condition before I do major damage? Money is tight right now!

If the joint is clicking, then it will need replacement, so the only issue now is if it get's bad enough, the joint could break and your vehicle will break down, not move and have to be towed. This could take a week or many months.

For some vehicles you can pick up axles for a really low price, under $100.00, and then have some one install it. Check online parts sites like Parts.com, Autozone.com, RockAuto.com etc.
