front brakes on 2002 BMW 330i

the brakes pannnel light is on.

I am not an expert, but you´ll have to check the brake pads, maybe there are worn off and the sensor attached to the pads is broken, that is the way it works, choose the wheel where the sensor is attached and see if the tip is broken by the pads or check the plug where the sensor is connected, it might be dirty or the cable could be damaged.

Are brake pads / rotors on a distance- or time-based maintenance frequency? Is there a sensor that measures the pad thickness? Or do I just wait until I hear noises?
Failure of the front control arm bracket bushings—often referred to as thrust rod bushings—is moderately common. One symptom is a clunk or jolt felt in the steering when braking.
Sounds similar to noise tires on trucks make on interstate. I have been told its the tires and maybe wheel bearing.
