My Subaru is 3 years old with 38,000 miles on it; I do mostly hwy driving to work. When taking it in for inspection, I passed but was told my front brakes are low, and they are bearing the braking load. Mechanic told me that rears "look almost brand new" because fronts are stopping the car. Is this normal or a defect?

MasterWhen you first apply brakes the rears grab first and then the front take over and do most of the braking, with this low mileage and you driving highway miles I would suspect that the front pads are still useable for quite a while. Have looked at by another tech. What works real well is have a friend go with you to their recommended tech and the new shop will want to earn your business and make their existing cust happy and will bend over backwards to treat you right. Get a second opinion.
