Question: Foul Rotten egg smell
Question
When I have accelarated at times real fast my veh gives a foul rotten egg smell that just invades the cabin.. What is causing this smell and how do I get rid of it..

TechnicianFuel additives often contain sulfur (that rotten egg smell). If your engine isn't burning all the sulfur it will build up in the catalytic converter, which will then get released in when the engine is under load and pushing more air through.
The first (cheapest) option is to try using a different kind of fuel for a while; different gas stations, higher grade, etc. To see if you can find one with a better sulfur content for your car.
If it still doesn't get any better, your only option is replacing the catalytic converter.

TechnicianYou need to have your exhaust checked where it attaches to the engine the donut seal may be loose. The Catalytic Converter could also be leaking the foul smelling fumes before it passes through the converter. Best advice go to a muffler shop and have this problem looked into.

Familymechanic, March 27, 2010, 19:09ReplyTechnicianAlso try the Recerc button on your AC this keeps outside air from mixing with the inside air of your car. Then you will at least know it is getting in you car through the Fresh air duct...

Visitor, April 18, 2010, 20:52ReplyCheck ur battery, thats a classic sign of a battery that is either overcharged or has a bad cell. I'd also check the alternator....
