Ford has recalled certain 1990-1992 Taurus and Mercury Sable wagons to replace the self-latching assembly in the rear storage compartment. The potential exists for a child to accidentally lock him or herself inside the storage compartment or rear footwell area. This could lead to panic, air deprivation, or possible asphyxiation, as the compartment cannot be opened from the inside once locked. Dealers will replace the latch assembly with one that can only be locked with a key.
Ford Taurus Recalls
Ford has recalled certain 1990-1992 Taurus, Mercury Sable, and Lincoln Continental vehicles in cold weather, high corrosion states to replace the brake rotors. The original rotors on the vehicle can easily corrode and separate, causing a potential braking safety issue. Dealers will replace the front rotors with full cast iron rotors.
Ford has recalled certain 1992 Taurus and Mercury Sable station wagons for an issue with the liftgate latch mechanism. In some cases, the secondary liftgate latch will not operate, which may cause the liftgate to open without operator action. If the liftgate opens without operator action, cargo or occupants may fall out. Dealers will replace the liftgate latch.
Ford has recalled certain 1990 Taurus models with the police package installed. These vehicles have 14x5.5-inch steel wheels that could crack, causing a potential for the wheel rim to separate from the center. Dealers will replace affected wheels with a revised design.
Ford has recalled certain 1990 Taurus and Mercury Sable vehicles equipped with the autolamp headlamp control system. In some cases, the autolamp system could fail, causing a loss of headlight function. This could present a safety issue while driving. Dealers will replace the affected light sensor modules.
