Ford recalls

For Models: Ford Explorer, Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS

Engine, March 27, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

During the manufacturing process, the side seam of the fuel tank may not have been properly sealed and as a result, the fuel tank would be weakened and not perform as expected in the event of a crash. In addition, a fuel leak could develop at any time. Dealers will inspect the fuel tank and replace it as necessary on vehicles included in this recall.

For Models: Ford Freestar, Mercury Monterey

Body, Interior & Misc., March 7, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The third row seat can experience rust at the seat anchor mechanism mounted to each rear wheel well. As a result, the seat may not fully latch into its seating position. If the vehicle is hit from the rear, an unlatched seat may increase the risk of injury. Dealers will install new third row seat latch striker mounting brackets to correct this concern.

For Models: Ford C-Max, Ford Escape, Ford Focus

Body, Interior & Misc., March 7, 2013

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The left rear door lock assembly was not manufactured correctly and as a result, the child lock may not engage properly. When the child lock is not engaged, the door can be opened from the inside, increasing the risk of injury to an unrestrained child. Dealers will inspect the the left rear door latch and replace it as necessary.

For Models: Ford Escape, Ford Fusion

Engine, December 3, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

Vehicles equipped with a 1.6L engine can experience an engine overheating condition. As the engine overheats, fluid leaks can develop. If leaking fluid comes into contact with the hot exhaust system, a fire could result. The remedy for this recall is still under development. At this time Ford is advising owners of affected vehicles to contact their dealer.

For Models: Ford Fusion

Electrical & Lights, November 30, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

When headlamps are manufactured, the plastic housings are created in a manner that prevents them from deteriorating and becoming dull and hazy. If this occurs, the headlamps will become less effective and driver visibility will be decreased. Ford will replace the headlamp assemblies on the affected Fusion vehicles.

For Models: Ford Fiesta

Body, Interior & Misc., October 5, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

An occupant in the right rear seat will not have coverage from the side curtain air bag in a side impact collision when the front passenger seat is empty, increasing the risk of injury to the right rear occupant. Although the air bag system was designed to suppress the side curtain air bag under this scenario, Ford dealers will reprogram the vehicle's software to deploy the air bag whether the passenger front seat is occupied or not. The Ford recall number is 12C26.

For Models: Ford Escape

Engine, September 4, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

On vehicles equipped with 1.6L engines, the cylinder head cup plug (freeze plug) may become dislodged, resulting in significant loss of engine coolant. As leaking engine coolant evaporates on the hot engine, the glycol may ignite, causing an engine compartment fire. An engine overheating condition could also occur. Dealers will seal the existing plug and add a secondary plug cover to correct this concern. The Ford recall number is 12S39.

For Models: Ford Edge

Engine, September 4, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

Vehicles equipped with 2.0L engines are being recalled because the fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack as a result of an improper manufacturing process. A cracked fuel line pulse damper housing may result in a combination of fuel odor, weepage, or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire. Dealers will perform the repairs necessary to correct this concern. The Ford recall number is 12S40.

For Models: Ford Transit Connect

Body, Interior & Misc., July 30, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

The wiper arms may not be adequately riveted, resulting in incomplete or inconsistent clearing of the windshield and possible detachment of the wiper arm. If the wiper arm detaches, the driver's visibility may be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the driver and passenger side wiper arm and blade assemblies to correct this concern. The Ford recall number is 12S36.

For Models: Ford Escape

Engine, July 25, 2012

RepairPal Expert Overview:

Ford Escape models equipped with a V6 are being recalled because inadequate clearance between the engine cover and the speed control cable connector could result in a stuck throttle when the accelerator pedal is fully or almost fully depressed. This risk exists regardless of whether or not the speed control (cruise control) is used.

A stuck throttle may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop or slow the vehicle, which could result in a crash. Dealers will correct this concern by increasing the engine cover clearance. Remedy parts are expected to be available in mid-August. Until then, dealers will disconnect the speed control cable as an interim remedy if parts are not available at the time of an owner's service appointment. The Ford recall number is 12S37.
