On trucks with the diesel engine, a software problem may cause a lack of power, rough engine operation, unusual noises, white smoke from the exhaust, and a visible flame out of the tailpipe.
The positioning of the positive battery wire may allow chafing of the wire, which could cause a short circuit and possibly a fire.
On trucks equipped with the 5.4L V8 or 6.8L V10, a problem with the fuel line connection may allow fuel to leak. The engine may lose power and stall. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
On trucks equipped with the 6.0L diesel engine, the negative battery cable to the engine may be loose.
