RepairPal Expert Overview
If your Windstar is driven in the North Eastern and Midwestern states, it may develop a loss of steering ability, increasing the risk of a crash. This is a result of damage caused by road salt.
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall. The steering may fail without warning. Please contact your Ford dealer; they will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
A corroded mounting bracket can cause the lower control arm to become loose or separate and/or the frame mounting bolts may cause the steering shaft to separate from the steering gear. One or both of these failures can result in loss of steering control. Dealers will inspect the affected areas and perform the necessary repairs. This recall is expected to begin by February 14, 2011. The Ford recall number is 11S16.
