On trucks with the diesel engine, excessive hydrocarbons in the exhaust may cause excessive heat in the diesel particulate filter. This may cause a lack of power, rough engine operation, unusual noises, white smoke from the exhaust, and a visible flame out of the tailpipe. Dealers will reprogram the power train control module. The recall began April 3, 2007. The Ford recall number is 07S49.
